Join MNN in Celebrating May Day - International Workers' Day this Thursday May 1st

On Thursday, May 1st, International Workers' Day, MNN will celebrate the historic struggles of working people throughout the world by hosting two live studio productions. For the past two years, strong opposition to damaging anti-immigrant, anti-worker legislation has led to massive protests across the country, reigniting the historical and important May 1st legacy and struggle for economic justice. MNN will host two live programs highlighting the current struggles of immigrants and working people in New York City.

Here are the descriptions for MNN's Two Special Live Programs on May 1st:

"The State of Black New York City Town Ha
ll" from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Channel 34 (Timewarner)/82 (RCN) or live streaming at www.mnn.org

The program will feature a discussion on specific challenges facing New Yorkers of African descent. Black Equity Alliance (The Alliance) in partnership with Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN) Public Access Television join for a forum on the groundbreaking report, State of Black New York City 2007.The Alliance seeks to engage all members of the New York City community and encourage strategic action and a 2008 advocacy initiative that addresses the continuing disparity in housing, education, trades, and the New York City Construction Industry.Invited panelists include: Rudolph F. Crew, former NYC Schools Chancellor, Dr. Dennis Derryck and Dr. Darrick Hamilton, Professors of Milano, The New School for Management & Urban Policy, and Lucille McEwen, President & CEO of Harlem Congregation for Community Improvement, Inc.

 

"May Day, May Day: Justice for Workers" from 9-10pm on Channel 34 (Timewarner)/82 (RCN) or live streaming at www.mnn.org
This live program will feature edited segments from the day's May 1st protests and marches from Brooklyn, the Lower East Side and Union Square. Special live in-studio guests will include: Organizers from Break the Chains Alliance and the National Mobilization Against SweatShops (www.breakthechainsnow.org) who will talk about their March for Equal Rights for all Workers, immigrant and native-born; Representatives of The May 1st Coalition (http://may1.info) who will talk about their Union Square Rally for Immigrant and Workers' Rights; and others. Tens of thousands are expected to take to the streets on May 1st. This live program will take an in-depth look at different points of view regarding the struggle of working people as the current economic crisis unfolds.
