Actions by Over 75 Latino / Latin American Artists
January 30 – May 18, 2008
Arte No Es Vida is a groundbreaking survey that presents, for the first time ever, the vast array of performative actions created by Latino artists in the United States, as well as artists working in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Central and South America, over the last half century.
Using a rich and lively gathering of film, video, photographs, texts, ephemera, costumes, props, and artworks related to significant works, as well as by presenting live performance and public programs, this exhibition will be a landmark in the documentation of action art.
Over 50 artists and collectives are represented in this survey, including Alberto Greco, Marta Minujin, Raphael
Montañez-Ortiz, Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, CADA, Juan Downey, Alfredo Jaar, Rafael Ferrer, Ana Mendieta, Tony Labat, ASCO, Papo Colo, Guillermo Gómez-Peña, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and contemporary practitioners including Coco Fusco, Santiago Sierra, Teresa Margolles and Regina José Galindo.
